Project Description

The Sawtooth Bridges in Newark, New Jersey were originally built in 1907 and form part of a heavily used rail corridor. The replacement program is intended to renew the aging structures and add two tracks, supporting continued safe and reliable passenger rail service through the area.

TULLOCH supported engineering design with an engineering-grade mobile LiDAR and topographic survey program. Using a RIEGL VMX-2HA system mounted to a hi-rail vehicle, our team collected corridor data along PATH’s north and south tracks, supplemented by mobile LiDAR of adjacent roads and conventional fill-in surveys for obscured and drainage features.

The survey data was used to map track, overhead catenary system infrastructure, utilities, terrain, and other corridor features, culminating in engineering survey base plan and profile drawings for design.
