Ammonia Piping and Pumps for Storage Tank Conversion

Project Overview
Services: Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering
Sector: Industrial & Manufacturing
Completed: 2021
Project Description
A major steel manufacturer repurposed an existing tank for ammonia liquor storage, requiring new process piping, pumping, loading, and temperature-control infrastructure to support the converted system.
TULLOCH led the design of the mechanical and structural components required for the conversion. The work included approximately 650 metres of process piping, pumping stations, truck loading and unloading facilities, structural pipe supports, and a steam heat-trace system.
The design was adapted as site conditions and project requirements evolved, and TULLOCH also supported TSSA application requirements to help advance the system toward implementation.
Scope of Services
- Process piping design for approximately 650 m of new piping
- Pumping station design
- Truck loading and unloading facility design
- Structural pipe support design
- Steam heat-trace system design
- Integration with the existing storage tank and plant infrastructure
- TSSA application support
- Design revisions to address changing site conditions
