North Tailings Remediation FEL 3 Study

Project Overview
Location: Sudbury, ON
Client: Vale
Services: Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering
Sector: Mining
Project Description
TULLOCH completed a geotechnical and hydrogeological investigation to support rehabilitation of an existing seepage collection dam and pond and the design of a blast-enhanced interceptor trench at a Vale tailings site in Sudbury. The study advanced the work to a feasibility level and developed recommendations for detailed design and continued monitoring.
The assignment combined drilling, rock and soil sampling, packer testing, groundwater instrumentation, seepage and slope-stability modelling, hydrogeological assessment, dam-rehabilitation design, trench design, and preparation of preliminary drawings, schedule, and cost estimates.
Scope of Services
- Geotechnical drilling with soil and rock core sampling
- Packer testing in bedrock
- Groundwater monitoring wells in overburden and bedrock
- Dam-rehabilitation feasibility design
