Project Description

TULLOCH was retained to provide pre-construction engineering survey support for the Highway 401 Regional Express Rail tunnel project in Toronto. The assignment merged existing survey data from the Metrolinx electrification program with new mobile LiDAR and conventional ground surveys in a complex highway and rail environment.

TULLOCH also designed and maintained in-situ and contactless monitoring systems to track vertical and horizontal movement around existing highways and tunnels. The monitoring systems tracked movement and shared readings with the client to inform work around existing highways and tunnels.

Scope of Services

  • High-accuracy geodetic control network
  • Mobile LiDAR, mapping, and infill ground GPS surveys
  • Real-property legal surveys and terrestrial scanning
  • Design and optimization of in-situ and contactless monitoring equipment
  • Installation and maintenance of monitoring systems
  • Vertical and horizontal movement monitoring to approximately +/-2 mm accuracy
  • Rapid reporting of monitoring readings
